co-organized “India-Tanzania Trade & Investment Forum” on 18th June,
2015 at New Delhi, in honour of the visit of H.E. Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete,
The President of United Republic of Tanzania. ASSOCHAM inked a Memorandum of Understanding with Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) in presence of H.E. Mr. Abdallah Kigoda (MP), Hon’ble Minister of Industry and Trade, Tanzania, on the sidelines of this visit. The MOU was signed by Mr. Ambuj Chaturvedi, Chairman, India-Africa Business Promotion Council, ASSOCHAM & Executive Director, Overseas Infrastructure Alliance (OIA).
President of Tanzania is on an official business tour to India from 17th to 21st June 2015. The President is accompanied by a High Level 70 member Official and Business Delegation from Tanzania.
During a
Keynote address at India-Tanzania Trade & Investment Forum, Dr. Kikwete
mentioned that the investment regime of the country presents free repatriation
of capital and the ability to externalize profits by putting fewer restrictions
on capital movements and government recognizes the importance of private sector
as engine of growth. Dwelling on Tanzania’s efforts to become a middle
income country by 2025, the President said that a long term plan was finalized
by the government for the period 2010-2025.

Forum was graced by Shri.
Mohanbhai Kalyanjibhai
Kundariya, Hon’ble Minister of State for Agriculture, Government of India, who
said that in 2014-15 India exported US$ 62.72 million agricultural products to
Tanzania, which mainly consisted of sugarcane, sugar, rice and ethanol and
Tanzania is home to thousands of persons of Indian origin, which further shows
the vibrant relation that the two countries share.
The Meeting
was chaired by Mr. Ambuj
Chaturvedi, Chairman, India-Africa Business Promotion Council, ASSOCHAM & Executive
Director, Overseas Infrastructure Alliance (OIA), who in his
address said that he is optimistic that the increasing convergence of
interests, values and ‘Win-Win’ opportunities that India Africa joint
partnership can offer, will be crystallized during the upcoming 3rd
India-Africa Forum Summit, New Delhi later this year. He also congratulated The
President, for completing 10 glorious years of your tenure as the President of
United Republic of Tanzania, this October and also for his initiative of constructing
standard gauge railway project of USD 14 billion from Dar-es-salaam to Rwanda
and Burundi in next five year. He also shared that the vision of this Council
is: “to take Indo-African
Relationship to its zenith by synergizing African resources and Indian
expertise”The Forum had participation by more than 400 participants from India and Tanzania.
